DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:

The West Hanover Township Fire Company was dispatched on January 9th, 2021 @ 20:30, for a reported MVA, vehicle wrapped around a tree, on Jonestown Road. Additional information provided by the County stating multiple entrapped and unresponsive. Chief 36-2 AOS, confirmed conditions, and that the vehicle was approximately 3 1/2 feet off the ground, around the tree. EMS pronounced 3 deceased. 4th occupant trapped in the drivers side, rear seat, with extreme difficulty breathing. Vehicle was secured with Struts, and stabilized. Crews first worked to remove the roof and rear section of the vehicle surrounding the patient's torso, taking pressure off the victims chest and allowing him to breath easier. Crews also worked to remove the vehicle from around his hips, legs and feet. He was pinned between the tree & drivers seat, the drivers door and B post, with no access. Multiple Amkus Cutters, Spreaders and Rams were utilized, along with several cordless Sawzalls, to gain access by removing the drivers door, partial seat frame relocate, and expand the floorboard and areas around the patient. This allowed removal of the patient on a long board, through the rear of the vehicle, to awaiting personnel, & litter. Extrication time 29 minutes. Vehicle was a 2014 Audi A6 2 door Coupe.
