DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:
On Tuesday, November 06, 2018 The Crumpton Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for a Rescue Box reported "entrapment". Chief 7 was the first arriving unit finding a box truck vs a car with 1 adult in serious condition and 3 pediatric patients all heavily trapped. The car had ran through the lift gate of a box truck, the lift gate had sheared the hood, roof, and dash off of the vehicle. Once Rescue/Engine arrived rescuers simultaneously used our AMKUS spreaders, cutters, Speed way cutters and 2nd set of O cutters to pop doors and preform a full driver’s side removal to extricate the patients.
Thanks to the training received from AMKUS and the reliability of the tools we were using, extrication took only 11 minutes from start to finish.
The power of the spreaders made quick work of displacing door hinges and the large cutting ability of the Speedway Cutters made it possible to remove the entire lower half of the “B” post with a single cut. All 4 patients were transported to Trauma centers by ground due to aviation being down due to weather. The Adult was pronounced brain dead at the hospital and we received word from her family that her organs were donated to help others. The 3 kids survived and walked out of the hospital less than a week after the accident.
We have been AMKUS buyers for more than 15 years and we continue to rely on AMKUS to help us rescue those in need. We are proud AMKUS customers and always will be!
