Description of Incident:
On Saturday Oct. 6, 2018 at approx. 13:30 an Indy Car driving experience car crashed in the Turn 2 area of the Super Speedway at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A 49-year old male driver lost control of the Indy-style open-wheel race car he was driving and impacted the outside retaining wall, head on. The damaged race car then slid to the bottom of the banked race track and impacted the inside crash wall. The LVMS Fire/Safety/Rescue Crew responded immediately to the crash site to find the driver trapped in the mangled race car with severe lower extremity injuries.
The AMKUS Cutter and Speedway Cutter were deployed and the crew used both cutters simultaneously to make several cuts of the roll cage and chassis bars to gain access to the drivers injuries and aid in his extrication.
The driver was rushed to UMC Trauma Center to have his injuries evaluated and treated.
