Description of Incident:
During the Street Car Super Nationals on Nov. 19th, 2011 at THE STRIP @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway, an Xtreme Drag Radial Firebird was making a 120+ mph pass when the 41 year old male driver lost control of the car and slammed into the concrete retaining wall on both sides of the track. The driver was knocked unconscious from the impact and his car was now on fire with the throttle stuck wide open while he was still trapped inside. The Safety Crew arrived quickly to extinguish the flames and turn off the main power to the motor and then went to work using both the Amkus Cutters and Spreaders to gain entry into the car and remove the roof so as to access the unconscious driver. The driver was stabilized and removed from the car and rushed via ambulance to UMC Trauma Center where we was treated for his injuries and later released and was back at the track the following day.
