I received this "war story" from Bob Hixon who volunteers with the Salyer, California FD. Bob learned about the Amkus Rope Rescue System within the last year and made it his personal mission in life to obtain a unit for his department. I demo'd it for his department earlier this year. There were several area departments in attendance. They tried to obtain a grant but were unsuccessful. Bob wouldn't give up there and continued to press for the department to use other funds for its purchase. Bob finally convinced the powers to be that it would be an invaluable tool considering the terrain that they have to contend with. They have some very steep areas in their area.

Bob was instrumental in working with the neighboring department, Willow Creek, in also obtaining an ARRS. I provided a second, more advanced training session for both departments on July 20th. Salyers unit was operational at that time. Willow Creek needed to install a receiver on the rescue vehicle they would be using.

On Sunday, July 25, the "war story" happened and Willow Creek knew what Salyer FD's unit was capable of doing. They called them for mutual aid and the rest is history. Besides this e-mail from Bob, I also received a phone call from the Chief of Willow Creek FD. He was very pleased with both the training, as well as the Amkus ARRS's abilities. We have some very happy customers!! Have a great day.

Rick:

I thought that you might be interested in hearing about our first over the bank story since our purchase, I missed it but here it is. Last Sun about 16:30 Willow Creek had an over the bank car wreck and mutual-aided Salyer. There were two victims about 200 feet down an 80% grade, not quite vertical bank. When Salyer arrived, Willow Creek was already over the bank doing patient care. They used their haul line for a belay and Salyer used their belay line for the haul system. With three hauls, they had everyone up including the rescuers. One victim then went by helicopter to the hospital.

This is the kicker, the rescuers only negative with the Amkus was that they couldn't rest on the way up. Rick, this AMKUS Rope Rescue System is a life saver. It was over a 100 deg. on scene and the rescuers were putting out 110%. I feel really good that I found a tool that worked good for me in my line of work and now it is working great in helping people in need.

Please tell the people of AMKUS and Diamondback Fire and Rescue, THANKS.
